Minnesota Vikings: 5 Offseason moves to improve in 2021
3. Continue to work on the offensive line
Over the last handful of seasons, the offensive line in Minnesota has been an issue and finding consistency within that unit has been something of concern for the purple and gold.
This offseason, that will be a storyline once again and the Vikings will have to continue to work on shoring up and improving the offensive line before the 2021 season can begin.
Whether it’s via free agency, the draft or both, Minnesota has to sign or draft at least one or two players to help out on the line to protect quarterback Kirk Cousins and open holes for running back Dalvin Cook and the running game.
When it comes to the free agent market, the Vikings likely won’t be able to be competitive for the top-tier free agent offensive linemen, that in part due to the team’s current salary cap situation. But players such as Jacksonville Jaguars tackle Cam Robinson, New England Patriots center David Andrews and Buffalo Bills guard Jon Feliciano could all be options for Minnesota to look at and try and sign on the open market.
If the Vikings were to focus on adding to that unit in the draft and end up bypassing the opportunity to take a defensive player in the first round, there would likely be some solid options at offensive linemen to choose from at pick No. 14 in the draft.
One name that Minnesota could look at selecting with its first pick might be Virginia Tech offensive lineman Christian Darrisaw, a player a lot of mock drafts have listed as a strong possibility. If the Vikings don’t go offensive lineman in the first round, there will likely be opportunities to address that need in following rounds of the draft as well.
Among the various needs on the Vikings depth chart going into the offseason, offensive line is an area of the team that must be improved before the 2021 campaign kicks off.
