Minnesota Vikings: 5 Offseason moves to improve in 2021
2. Finally commit and stick to a long-term offensive coordinator
Over the last few years, one thing that has been an evolving door in Minnesota has been the offensive coordinator position and individuals holding that title.
Coming into 2021, there have been six different offensive play-callers for the Vikings in the last six years, with the most recent offensive coordinator being Gary Kubiak until he announced his retirement this offseason.
As Minnesota looked to fill that position yet again, it ended up hiring an individual who will be able to hit the ground running and keep the scheme on that side of the ball very similar to what it has been the last few years. That is due to the team recently promoting Gary’s son, Klint Kubiak, to take over play-calling duties after spending the last few seasons with the Vikings as the quarterbacks coach.
The move of appointing Kubiak was one that made sense on multiple levels and will continue the flow of things offensively to help Minnesota try and continue to improve in 2021 and ultimately try and make a return to the postseason.
Now with that new face taking over as offensive coordinator, the next important thing for the Vikings and head coach Mike Zimmer is to commit to the 33-year-old Kubiak moving forward to create some sort of continuity at that coaching position for basically the first time in six years. It’s time to finally commit and stick to a coach to lead the play-calling duties in Minnesota, and Klint Kubiak will get his shot starting in 2021.
