It’s been a revolving door behind center for the Denver Broncos but could another change be coming down the pipeline.

The last time the Denver Broncos reached the playoffs, they took home a Super Bowl trophy. The season was 2015, the defense was phenomenal and the club began the year with Peyton Manning at quarterback, turned to Brock Osweiler when the veteran was hurting, and then brought back the Pro Football Hall of Famer in the second half of Week 17 and into the playoffs.

A year later, the club got off to a 4-0 start. And since then, the franchise owns a 28-48 record in their last 76 outings. The club finished dead last in the AFC West this past season with a 5-11 mark, as was the case in 2017. The issues are many when it comes to the club. Team boss John Elway has relinquished his general manager title and the team hired George Paton in mid-January.

One of the team’s offseason priorities is an attempt to find some stability at quarterback, something that has eluded the club the past five years. In 2016, it was Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch. A year later, that duo was joined by Osweiler and the team didn’t win a game with him at the controls (0-4).

In 2018, Case Keenum started all 16 games and the club went 6-10. Elway dealt for veteran Joe Flacco but he, Brandon Allen and then-rookie Drew Lock all started games for Vic Fangio’s team.

This past season, it was Lock, Jeff Driskel, Brett Rypien and Kendall Hinton — the latter a practice squad performer forced to play quarterback against the Saints when COVID-19 affected the quarterback room.

Now this. Recent speculation (via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk) that the franchise has interest in Texans’ star Deshaun Watson if Houston makes him available. Meanwhile, Zack Kelberman of SI.com reports that if Watson isn’t available (which seems to be the case via the organization), Lock would be back as the starter.

In 2020, no team turned over the football more than the Denver Broncos. And Lock (15 interceptions, three lost fumbles) combined for more than half (18) of those 32 miscues. Could Elway, Paton and the organization be on the lookout for a new field-general over the next few months? It’s been quite the issue in the Mile High City for far too long.
