2. Draft a quarterback with an eye on the future

The upcoming NFL Draft will be an incredibly important one for the future of the Atlanta Falcons and how the organization progresses both this season and beyond.

With a talented draft class ready to be selected in the coming months, the Falcons hold the No. 4 overall pick in the draft and will likely look to the future with that selection.

When it comes to what position Atlanta selects with that top-five pick, it should be one of the talented quarterbacks incoming. Although cutting ties with Matt Ryan under center is unlikely in 2021 due to his salary situation and teams not likely to want to take on that type of contract, it’s time for the Falcons to look to life after Ryan. And that begins with the No. 4 draft pick.

When it’s time for Atlanta to select at No. 4 in the draft, some names that could be available are BYU’s Zach Wilson, Ohio State’s Justin Fields, North Dakota State’s Trey Lance or Alabama’s Mac Jones.

A name that has been rising up many draft boards has been Wilson, and if he is available when the Falcons are selecting, it makes a lot of sense for the team to draft him.

The Falcons are a ways off from being a playoff team or a championship caliber team, which means it’s time to focus solely on the future and building for life beyond just 2021. That means Atlanta should draft a quarterback in the first round of the upcoming draft with an eye on the future.
