It seems like the Packers have been linked as a potential fit for Patrick Peterson for the past five years. Now that he’s an unrestricted free agent, Green Bay will have a chance to secure his services without having to trade any compensation to the Cardinals. That is, assuming Peterson doesn’t re-sign with Arizona.

The Packers lack of depth at the cornerback position reared its ugly head in the NFC Championship game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Cornerback Kevin King was exposed on several plays, most notably on a Hail Mary pass for a touchdown from Tom Brady to Scotty Miller at the end of the first half.

King, who’s a free agent himself, is likely done in Green Bay. Imagine Peterson as a potential replacement, lined up opposite the best man-to-man cornerback in the NFL in Jaire Alexander. The duo of Alexander and Peterson would have a good argument for being the best pair of corners in the NFL.

Peterson turns 31 in July and he’s not as fast as he was once known for, but he still has the cover skills to be a starting cornerback in the NFL. Would the eight-time Pro Bowler want to come to Green Bay to chase a ring?
