Buffalo Bills dream free agent target No. 3: Yannick Ngakoue, EDGE

After playing for three different teams in just under two season, Yannick Ngakoue is set to become a free agent in 2021 after finishing the 2020 season with the Baltimore Ravens.

Despite bouncing around teams for the past two years, Ngakoue has still managed to put up impressive defensive statistics. In his 2020 campaign, the 25 year old edge rusher tallied 23 solo tackles, 11 QB hits, eight sacks, seven tackles for a loss, four forced fumbles and one pass defended in just eight starts.

Given a starting role with the Buffalo Bills, Ngakoue would be sure to pair nicely with veteran Jerry Hughes. As Hughes enters his 12th season, Ngakoue would allow the veteran to focus on run-stopping while the younger of the two brings pressure on opposing quarterbacks. This works out, as Ngakoue has never been considered an ideal run-stopping defensive lineman, and Buffalo struggled to stop the run in 2020.

In addition to addressing the need at the position, Buffalo would have the ability to spare themselves a massive salary burden if they chose to sign Ngakoue. Going into his sixth year with only a single Pro-Bowl selection, the Bills can offer the edge rusher a one or two year “prove it” deal, while also providing an opportunity to play for a legitimate contender.

Whether defensive ends Jerry Hughes or Mario Addison retire or get released , the Buffalo Bills may be surprised to find a free agent steal in Yannick Ngakoue.
