Cowboys: Dak Prescott is not worth Patrick Mahomes type of money
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has spoken and he wants to be the second-highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, right behind Patrick Mahomes.
The storyline between Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys has spanned for well over a year now, but we have an update as to what Prescott’s demands are. He wants his team to pay him just shy of what Patrick Mahomes is making.
This demand is ridiculous.
We all knew when Mahomes signed his massive contract extension worth over $500 million that’ll keep him as the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs through the end of the 2031 season that it’d change the way quarterbacks are paid. While they’ll be getting more money, no one is deserving of Mahomes’ contract except for Mahomes.

Dak Prescott has yet to win at the highest level, so why should he get paid as if he has?
The Chiefs weren’t faulted for paying Mahomes that much money because the guy went out there and earned it. He won MVP in 2018 after throwing for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns and was an offsides penalty away from reaching the Super Bowl. The next year, his encore performance was winning a Super Bowl and being named MVP of that game.
Not only did Mahomes win a Super Bowl just three years into his career (and second as a starter), but he did with a franchise that had not seen much success. The Chiefs hadn’t won a Super Bowl for 50 years, but Mahomes got them the championship.
Sure, Prescott’s numbers are good, but the Cowboys haven’t amounted to anything. Their best chance to make some noise was during Prescott’s rookie year, but the ‘Boys flamed out in the Divisional Round after securing a 13-3 record that season.
Dallas has made the postseason twice with Prescott as their quarterback and they’re 1-2 in those playoff games. Prescott isn’t the reason why the Cowboys have lost those games, but he failed to rise above and get them the victories.
Plus, if Dallas pays him the money he wants, how does he expect his team to remain competitive? We’ve seen what happens to teams when they’re forced to invest a lot of money in one player (typically the quarterback, but not always) and it usually doesn’t end well. If the Cowboys give Prescott what he wants and makes him the second-highest-paid player in the NFL, there goes the opportunity to bring in key free agents.
The Dallas Cowboys want to win a Super Bowl, but if they pay Dak Prescott the amount of money he’s asking for, they won’t be winning the big game any time soon.
