Whenever the Packers selected Kevin King out of Washington four years ago in the second round, there was clear upside with the young cornerback as he had a ton of tools. The problem is that King was short on technique and never fully developed in addition to lacking necessary juice.

Ifeatu Melifonwu is somewhat similar in that he’s not a polished coverage player at this time but the argument could be made that both the floor and ceiling for him are higher than they were for King. The Syracuse product has great size at 6-2, 212 pounds but is also an effective athlete who moves extremely well.

He needs some coaching in terms of his work in coverage and when he makes his turns and breaks to put himself in the best position. But after a strong Senior Bowl showing and a leap up draft boards after this past season, he could be a real answer for the Packers secondary.

As mentioned previously, the Packers wide receiver corps still needs help. Davante Adams is arguably the best in the league but Allen Lazard and Marquez Valdes-Scantling are more role players than bonafide second options. Something has to change about that.

While I would expect Green Bay to address the position in free agency to some degree, they could also make some dart throws in the 2021 NFL Draft, which they do in the third round of this mock draft by taking Dazz Newsome out of North Carolina.

Newsome isn’t a burner by any means and his size (5-11, 190 pounds) likely means he should play in the slot. However, the former Tar Heel is lightning quick and can get open on all levels of the field. Moreover, he’s terrific with the ball in his hands and can continue to make plays. He’s a weapon that could open up the field for Adams and options for Rodgers.
