As much as the Cowboys need a cornerback, and they do, they need a safety even more. For some reason, their front office thinks having a good safety is not a necessity and their continual failures in pass defense have not deterred them from this line of thinking. So why use a third-round pick on a potential starting safety when this feels like a high pick for the Jones family (even though it’s not)? Simple — the coaching staff has to be in their ear by now telling them they need some help here and using a day two pick is a compromise both sides can live with.

The good news is, this ends up being a win for the coaches and the fans who have been clamoring for a safety. Richie Grant is a true centerfield type of safety, which Dallas has lacked for years. His ball skills are impressive and pairing him with Donovan Wilson would give them two legit playmakers at safety.

(Projected Comp Pick): With their next pick, the Cowboys land Marvin Wilson, Jr. from Florida State. Listed at 6-3 and 319 pounds, Wilson’s addition would give them a big, powerful nose tackle capable of filling gaps in the run game. There was a time where Wilson was expected to go much higher than this, so the talent is there, and if he cleans up the shortcomings in his game, he could be an absolute steal as a comp pick.

Just like every other position on the Dallas defense, the interior of the line needs some help. There are some decent prospects with Neville Gallimore and even Trysetn Hill started to play better before his injury, but nothing is guaranteed and they need to continue to look for players who can develop.
