NFL Draft 2021 Pro Comparisons: Patrick Surtain II → Carlton Davis

Wide receivers in the NFL might be getting smaller, but teams are always going to be looking for the big cornerbacks like Patrick Surtain II. At 6-foot-2, Surtain has the height to cover some of the league’s biggest pass-catchers like Julio Jones, D.K. Metcalf, and Chase Claypool.

Surtain found immediate success during his college career at Alabama and he has the potential to make an instant impact as a rookie in the NFL. Cornerback is one of the harder positions to transition to at the pro level, but he’s one of the few that has a chance to make a quick adjustment.

Quarterbacks tended to stay away from Surtain in college and when they did throw a pass in his direction, he made them regret it. During his three years at Alabama, he notched a total of 24 pass breakups.

Why he compares to Carlton Davis:

Carlton Davis hasn’t been in the league very long, but he’s already established himself as one of the best corners in the game as a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Davis has been able to use his length to his advantage out on the field and this is something that Surtain should be able to do as well once he enters the NFL. Pro scouts rave about Surtain’s long arms and this is characteristic of Davis’ also that has led to him experiencing success during his first three seasons in the league.
