NFL Draft 2021 Pro Comparisons: Wyatt Davis → Brandon Scherff

In his first season as a starter on Ohio State’s offensive line in 2019, all Wyatt Davis did was earn a First-Team All-American selection and the First-Team All-Big Ten team. Thanks to this, it’s no surprise that Davis is viewed as one of the top interior offensive linemen available in this year’s NFL Draft.

When it comes to his blocking, the former Ohio State offensive lineman definitely excelled more in that aspect than pass protection. Davis wasn’t a terrible pass blocker by any means during his college career, there are just some tweaks that need to be made to his techniques, and these are things that coaches at the pro level can help him with.

Despite measuring in at 6-foot-4 and a wide 310 pounds, there were numerous times during his tenure at Ohio State when he displayed the ability to run block down the field. When a guy at his size is running full steam ahead, there aren’t many defenders that are looking to get his way.

Why he compares to Brandon Scherff:

Like Davis, Brandon Scherff’s run blocking abilities certainly outweighed his pass protection skills when he was selected by the Washington Football Team with the No. 5 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.

It didn’t take long, however, for Scherff to improve his pass blocking abilities once he reached the pro level. Now he’s regarded as one of the top offensive linemen in the entire league and as a free agent this year, he’s among those that are expected to earn a very lucrative contract.
