NFL Draft 2021 Pro Comparisons: Trey Lance → Josh Allen

Playing at the FCS level typically makes it harder to earn a shot in the NFL, but this isn’t the case for former North Dakota State quarterback Trey Lance. Hailing from the same school that produced current Indianapolis Colts signal-caller Carson Wentz, Lance has the potential to develop into an even better pro quarterback than Wentz.

With the combination of his accuracy and rushing ability, Lance is in the mold of the modern NFL signal-caller. As a sophomore in 2019, he threw for 2,786 yards, 28 touchdowns and no interceptions while also rushing for 1,100 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He might need a little time to adjust to the pro level due to the large jump in competition he will be facing, but it shouldn’t take long for him to make the transition.

Why he compares to Josh Allen:

Lance’s combination of using his legs and arm to succeed is what makes him the most similar to current Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen.

The former North Dakota State passer doesn’t have a cannon for an arm like Allen does, but his accuracy is much better coming out of college than Allen’s was during his amateur career at Wyoming.

Like the Bills do with Allen though, whatever team that drafts Lance can eventually scheme up a number of designed runs for the quarterback to add a unique element to their offense.
