NFL Draft 2021 Pro Comparisons: Kyle Pitts → Darren Waller
Elite tight end prospects are a rarity in the NFL Draft. They don’t come along very often. But when they do, they usually prove to be worth the high selection that was used to pick them.
This year, former Florida tight end Kyle Pitts is hoping his production in college and his potential to excel as a pro will lead to him being a top-10 selection in the draft.
At 6-foot-5 and 239 pounds, Pitts has the size to take on opposing defenders as a blocker, and then he also has a receiving ability that most tight ends don’t have until they’ve been in the NFL for a few seasons.
During his final year at Florida, Pitts hauled in 43 passes for 770 yards (17.9 average) and 12 touchdowns. Whoever ends up with this kid is going to get a player that should be able to make an immediate impact.
Why he compares to Darren Waller:
Current Las Vegas Raiders tight end Darren Waller is a guy who clearly has the size (6-foot-6, 255 pounds) to block when it’s asked of him. But Waller has emerged as one of the top pass-catching tight ends during his last two seasons with the Raiders.
In 2020, Waller finished with 107 catches for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns. These are the kind of numbers that NFL scouts think Pitts has the potential to eventually put up.
