NFL Draft 2021 Pro Comparisons: Javonte Williams → Nick Chubb
For a guy who made 22 trips to the end zone in 2020, it’s not hard to understand why people are viewing former North Carolina running back Javonte Williams as one of the top prospects from his position group this year.
In addition to his 22 touchdowns last season, Williams put up some very impressive numbers. In 11 games with North Carolina, he rushed for 1,140 yards on 157 carries (7.3 average) while also hauling in 25 passes for 305 yards (12.2 average).
Due to his size (5-foot-10, 220 pounds), Williams has a bit of deceptive quickness. This allows him to break multiple tackles, but his quickness helps him speed out of the grasp of opposing defenders.
Why he compares to Nick Chubb:
Current Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb is someone who also fools his opponents with his quickness because of his size.
Measuring in at 5-foot-11 and 227 pounds has come in handy for Chubb when he’s taken carries near the opposing goal line.
At the same time, the current Browns rusher has also found the end zone after runs of at least 60 yards three times since he entered the NFL in 2018.
Like Williams, Chubb has the ability to catch the ball out of the backfield when needed. It’s not the strongest part of his game, but he’s still been able to be productive when he’s asked to run a pass route.
If an NFL team is looking for a running back in this year’s draft that can come in and immediately make an impact, Williams is among the few who are capable of making a difference on Day 1.
