Long-time NFL backup quarterback Chase Daniel could be on the move once again. Where could the Lions QB2 land in the coming weeks/months?

Chase Daniel has had quite the football career. After placing fourth in the Heisman Trophy voting in 2007, he went undrafted in the 2009 NFL Draft but still finds himself in the NFL as a premier backup. Daniel has spent 11 seasons in the NFL and has been on five different teams. He’s started just five games in his 11-year career.

Daniel signed with the Detroit Lions last offseason and now with Detroit rebuilding, it looks like they might ship Daniel elsewhere and get some draft picks in return. As ESPN’s Adam Schefter notes in the tweet below, Daniel is a great mentor and would be a terrific addition for a team with a young quarterback.

With Daniel potentially on the move once again, let’s check out the best landing spots for the former Mizzou Tiger.

4. New Orleans Saints

This one is a different situation from the other three teams on the list, as the Saints probably aren’t going to have a young guy quarterbacking them in 2021. More than likely, we see them either roll with swiss army knife Taysom Hill or re-sign former No. 1 pick Jameis Winston as their starting quarterback this year.

Daniel would simply be insurance if this is the route the Saints go in. If Winston is their starter, Daniel could be the backup to ensure that Hill can continue to be used in his best role, which is doing a little bit of everything.

Daniel backed up Drew Brees in New Orleans for the first three years of his NFL career and returned there for one year in 2017. It’s where he’s spent the most amount of time and he’s clearly comfortable with Sean Payton and the Saints offense.

This probably won’t happen due to the lack of trade chips the Saints currently have, but Daniel going back to his original team could make some sense.
