Dak Prescott should’ve been signed by the Dallas Cowboys to a long-term contract a long time ago but they’ve finally reached a four-year deal.

Throughout last season and much of this offseason, there were questions about the Dallas Cowboys and quarterback Dak Prescott reaching a long-term deal. On Monday, the standoff came to a close as Dallas reached an agreement with their franchise quarterback, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Prescott and the Cowboys have agreed on a four-year, $160 million deal with $126 million in guaranteed money. Furthermore, over the first three years of this new deal, Prescott will average $42 million.

This deal was long overdue for Prescott, who has outplayed his draft status and become one of the better quarterbacks in the league. Additionally, it assures the Cowboys that they have their leader in place for years to come.

Dak Prescott has endured several obstacles and is finally rewarded for his services.

As many will recall, Dak Prescott suffered a season-ending ankle injury in Week 5 against the New York Giants in a year where he was playing on the franchise tag. That begged the question of whether or not he would be resigned after the season. Those questions have now been put to rest. Also, it would be disingenuous to disregard what Prescott has meant to the organization.

After being drafted in the fourth round out of Mississippi State in the 2016 NFL Draft, Prescott led Dallas to a 13-3 record and the NFC East title as a rookie. Additionally, in 2018, he won another division title and a playoff game against the Seahawks. He has thrown for 106 touchdowns and 40 interceptions in his career.

It’s all smiles in the Lone Star State as Dallas has locked up their leader. What took so long to make this deal happen is a question we may never have a concise answer for. For now, Dallas can look to the draft and attack other pressing needs. They have several holes to fill, but the quarterback is no longer one of them.
