2021 NFL Mock Draft: Zach Wilson rises to Jets at No. 2 in 3-round projection
By Randy Gurzi
We all know the New England Patriots need a quarterback but chances are slim that they will be adding one at No. 15 in the upcoming draft. Head coach Bill Belichick seems to be against spending an early pick on any prospects plus there are hints he could go after a veteran once again — just as he did in 2020 when he landed Cam Newton.
There are a couple of likely options with free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick as well as Marcus Mariota (currently with the Oakland Raiders) also being said to have Belichick’s attention as a possible trade target. Neither one of those players would be the long-term answer but the Pats could probably win with them, and for some reason, Fitzpatrick feels like someone who could excel under Belichick and Josh McDaniels even if it’s a one or two-year partnership.
With all that being said, we look to the other side of the line of scrimmage with this pick and land Notre Dame linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 215-pounds, Owusu-Koramoah is a bit of a ‘tweener’ in that he’s built like a safety despite having a linebacker’s skill-set.
Despite his size, he’s still an impact player at linebacker. He’s strong against the pass due to his speed but he can also bring the heat on the blitz (seven sacks in 25 career games) and doesn’t miss many tackles. He’ll be a potential Pro Bowl player with the right team and this feels like the right team.
