2021 NFL Mock Draft: Zach Wilson rises to Jets at No. 2 in 3-round projection
By Randy Gurzi
(Pick via Los Angeles Rams): The second of two first-round picks obtained in the trade with the Los Angeles Rams for Jalen Ramsey comes due here for the Jacksonville Jaguars. They already landed their first true franchise quarterback in Trevor Lawrence, who feels like a sure thing. Now at No. 25, they again go with the offensive side of the ball — after using two picks in Round 1 on defense last year acquiring C.J. Henderson and K’Lavon Chaisson.
This time, they go for a tight end, to try and help round out their offense, taking Pat Freiermuth from Penn State. There will be calls for a wide receiver but the Jags have seen D.J. Chark get it done at the highest level and just took Laviska Shenault in the second round last season. With them in town, they have receivers, but they can really use a safety valve at tight end.
That’s what they get in Freiermuth, who is a massive target at 6-foot-5 and 250-pounds. He’s got the right blend of size, speed, and athleticism to provide a mismatch against linebackers and even safeties in the passing game. He’s also a solid blocker, proving to be a complete tight end.
In his first two seasons, Freiermuth had 15 touchdowns proving to be a red-zone threat, which Trevor Lawrence will be thrilled to have. He was able to play in just four games in 2020 but still showed off his talent, gaining 310 yards on 23 receptions.
