2021 NFL Mock Draft: Zach Wilson rises to Jets at No. 2 in 3-round projection
By Randy Gurzi
Ahead of the 2020 season, the Green Bay Packers added former Cleveland Browns linebacker Christian Kirksey. A product of Iowa, Kirksey outperformed his status as a third-round pick in 2014 but was released by the Browns due to his high-dollar contract and an inability to stay healthy.
Green Bay was willing to give Kirksey a spot to try and revive his career, signing him to a two-year, $16 million deal. He proved he can still make an impact, recording 77 tackles, two sacks, and two picks but once again, struggled with health. Kirksey missed five games and won’t be able to finish out his contract with the Packers since they released him in a cap-saving move.
With a newly created hole at linebacker, Green Bay goes for Nick Bolton out of Missouri at pick No. 29. Bolton originally looked to be a day two pick but as the process has moved along, it’s become apparent that scouts are higher on him than originally assumed.
After playing sparingly as a rookie, Bolton broke out in 2019 with 103 tackles, 8.5 for a loss, and two interceptions. He followed that up with 95 tackles, eight for a loss, and two sacks during his junior season. He should be an instant starter for the Packers and will not only produce right away but will save them a lot of money in the process.
