2021 NFL Mock Draft: Zach Wilson rises to Jets at No. 2 in 3-round projection
By Randy Gurzi
The Detroit Lions hired a new head coach this offseason and they went from a defensive-minded old-school coach full of odd cliches in Matt Patricia to an offensive-minded old-school coach full of odd cliches in Dan Campbell.
Patricia, the former New England Patriots defensive coordinator was infamously late to his own meetings after preaching discipline and liked to tell reporters not to slouch. As strange as some of his press conferences were, he might have been upstaged by Campbell who started talking about biting knee caps during his opening presser, which is really strange.
We’ll have to wait and see if Campbell’s approach works but it feels like more of the same in the Motor City. The good news is, they can at least get some talent here at No. 7, which is where they take Jaylen Waddle. The second-straight Alabama player in our 2021 NFL Mock Draft, Waddle suffered an ankle injury that derailed his final season with the Tide and robbed us of seeing him as the top option without Jerry Jeudy.
DeVonta Smith stepped up in his absence and vaulted just ahead of him in this mock but Waddle is no consolation prize. Detroit lands a player capable of carrying a receiving corps who can either be a great starter opposite Kenny Golladay or help the Lions replace him should he leave in free agency.
