2022 NFL free agency: T.J. Watt to Seattle Seahawks

*Updated Oct 1st – Watt signs 5 year $112 million dollar contract to stay with Pittsburgh*

As long as quarterback Russell Wilson is with the Seahawks — and even that has some doubts — the Seahawks will be legitimate Super Bowl contenders.

Yet Seattle’s defense was notably bad last season and ranked awfully poor in the pass-rush department. With only four picks in the upcoming NFL Draft, the Seahawks won’t have a lot of opportunities to reinforce their defense on the cheap.

The good news, though, is Seattle is projected to boast over $140 million in cap space in 2022. It could look to bolster its pass-rushing efforts with a loaded edge-rushing NFL free agency class this offseason.

Or the Seahawks could target Pittsburgh Steelers EDGE T.J. Watt a year from now.

The Steelers face a messy cap situation in 2021 but will likely still try making any and all efforts to retain their star pass-rusher. But if one feels as if Pittsburgh is on the decline despite boasting a terrific defense last year, it’s not hard to assume a player like Watt would want to go to a regular contender.

Seattle is, and has the money along with the need for his services.
