2022 NFL free agency: Quenton Nelson to Indianapolis Colts

*Updated Oct 1st – Colts pick up Nelson’s 5th year option*

This is a no-brainer.

Three-time first-team All-Pro left guard Quenton Nelson isn’t going anywhere aside from the team that drafted him, the Colts.

Not only has Nelson been a reliable mainstay for Indy’s offensive line the last three seasons, not once having missed a start over his still-budding career, but he also played a massive reason in the Colts boasting the league’s No. 7-ranked offensive line in 2020, according to Pro Football Focus.

It’s pretty safe to say this ranking wouldn’t have been achieved if Nelson wasn’t in the picture.

Nelson is deserving of a massive contract extension that would pay him offensive tackle-type money, and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him receive a payout in the range of $16 million to $17 million per year.

He’s worth it, though.

Indianapolis could easily ride with the fifth-year option here once his rookie deal expires after 2021. But one might expect a much more likable extension to be finalized at some point during the upcoming year.
