2022 NFL free agency: Josh Allen to Buffalo Bills

*Updated Oct 1st – Get accustomed to seeing Allen in Buffalo blue after he signed a 6 year contract extension worth $258 million*

Over the first year-plus of his career, one could have assumed the Bills weren’t overly committed to quarterback Josh Allen. He showed signs of promise, yes. But a paltry offensive line and lackluster pass-catchers at his disposal didn’t help matters much.

Yet Allen’s progression was apparent, and it all started to come together in 2019. That ultimately led to Allen’s impressive 2020 campaign in which he was considered a dark-horse candidate for the league MVP award.

While there were better players overall last season, Allen certainly showcased why Buffalo was so high on him back in the 2018 NFL Draft. And what’s even more exciting for Bills fans is the realization Allen is on the ascent, which is indicated by the notable year-to-year increase in his passer rating:

  • 2018: 67.9
  • 2019: 85.3
  • 2020: 107.2

The Bills’ Super Bowl window just opened, and Allen needs to be a part of it. Whether Allen remaining with Buffalo in 2022 by way of a massive extension or by way of a fifth-round option is anyone’s guess.

But what’s more important is Buffalo finally getting its long-term franchise signal-caller.
