2022 NFL free agency: Dont’a Hightower to Miami Dolphins
There’s a good chance the New England Patriots attempt to move veteran linebacker Dont’a Hightower this upcoming season as they look to undergo what’ll likely be a multiyear rebuild. And even if they don’t move the soon-to-be 31-year-old two-time Pro Bowler, it’s not head coach Bill Belichick’s modus operandi to extend aging veterans beyond their use to the team.
Besides, Hightower might not want to wait around with another team undergoing a rebuild and could seek to find another squad higher up on the rise.
Particularly after opting out of 2020 on the heels of his second Pro Bowl-level campaign the previous year.
Depending on what happens with their quarterback situation, that could be the Miami Dolphins. Either way, the Dolphins should have plenty of money with a quarterback, still possibly Tua Tagovailoa, on his rookie contract.
And it would be great for Hightower to reunite with his former coach in New England, Dolphins head man Brian Flores.
It wouldn’t be the first time a former Pats player jumped ship to reunite with a former assistant in New England, and Hightower could be the latest.
