2022 NFL free agency: Tyler Lockett to Jacksonville Jaguars

*Updated Oct 1st – Lockett signs 4 year contract extension with Seattle worth $69.2 million*

The Jacksonville Jaguars are going to take home the best quarterback in the 2021 NFL Draft, Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence, and over the next few years, they’re going to need to surround him with weapons.

It’s a shame Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett hasn’t received more attention around the league.

But he’s awfully good. Back-to-back seasons with 1,000 receiving yards despite being overshadowed by his Seahawks teammate, wide receiver D.K. Metcalf, is a testament to Lockett’s prowess. And he’ll still only be 29 years old at the beginning of the 2022 season, making him a perfect target for the Jaguars in NFL free agency a little over a year from now.

Especially if the Jags want to find someone who regularly finds the end zone. This is an area where Lockett has thrived the last three seasons:

  • 2018: 10 touchdowns
  • 2019: eight touchdowns
  • 2020: 10 touchdowns

More importantly, Lockett would be able to reunite with his former offensive coordinator in Seattle, Darrell Bevell, who now holds the same role in Jacksonville.

With the Jags undergoing a complete rebuild with a shiny new quarterback, a proven veteran like Lockett would help spark that offense.
