Grading every rookie from the 2020 NFL Draft: 9. C.J. Henderson, CB, Jacksonville Jaguars

2020 stats:

  • 36 total tackles
  • 1 INT
  • 6 passes defended

If the Defensive Rookie of the Year award could have been won in one game, then Jacksonville Jaguars Corner C.J. Henderson would’ve walked away with the hardware.

The University of Florida product came out of the gates seemingly pissed that he wasn’t picked first overall. Going into their game against the Colts, the Jags were given virtually no chance at pulling off the win. That, of course, proved to be laughable as Henderson took the game over.

The first-year corner gave an incredulous look to quarterback Phillip Rivers whenever he threw a ball in his direction as he broke up three passes. If that wasn’t enough of a warning, he picked off the future Hall of Famer for good measure. His efforts led to a huge upset win. More was expected of him but he simply couldn’t produce to the level he flashed in game one.

Not only would his interception against the Colts be his only one of the year but his 36 total tackles were a bit on the disappointing side.

Worst of all, Henderson’s year was truncated due to a nagging groin injury. Coming into year two, hopes and expectations will be high but as for year one, it was a bit of a dud.
