2020 NFL Draft: Grading every first-round pick after rookie year
Grading every rookie from the 2020 NFL Draft: 12. Henry Ruggs, WR, Las Vegas Raiders
2020 stats:
- 452 yards
- 2 TDs
- 26 receptions
There’s really no other way to say it. Henry Ruggs just wasn’t very well last year. In a league where the offense is catered to, there’s no reason why someone as talented as Ruggs doesn’t at the very least double the production he gave you last season.
Two touchdowns and less than 500 yards? Flat out unacceptable. Now to be fair, he didn’t get as many targets as he should’ve with 43. But the first-year receiver really needs to work on separating from his defenders.
In a draft that many believed was going to dish out several high-caliber players, Ruggs was at the top of most lists. It’s difficult to place any of the blame on quarterback Derek Carr either. Say what you want about him but he did rank ninth in the league in completion percentage.
There were certainly flashes of greatness from the young stud but they happened so infrequently. In no way am I saying he won’t bounce back in a big way next season. In fact, I expect him to. But what I am saying is, as the first wide receiver taken off the board in such a deep class, you can easily make the case that he had the worst season of them all. He just didn’t get the job done.
