Raiders, Yannick Ngakoue provides much needed pass rush
The Las Vegas Raiders needed help in their pass rush and signing Yannick Ngakoue is a step in the right direction.
The Las Vegas Raiders have been a team that has lacked in the pass rush. Following their signing of Yannick Ngakoue, they hope to have solved that problem. The former Viking, Raven and Jaguar signed a two-year, $26 million deal with the Raiders, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
This move gives the Raiders a potential pass rush that has not been seen since Khalil Mack was traded to the Chicago Bears. Additionally, it gives the Raiders a player that can generate pressure on the opposite side of Maxx Crosby and/or Clelin Ferrell.
Moreover, Ngakoue reunites with former defensive coordinator Gus Bradley, who was responsible for helping him produce at a high level with the Jaguars during their miraculous run to the 2017 AFC championship game.
Signing Yannick Ngakoue is a low-risk, high reward move for the Las Vegas Raiders.
Throughout his tenure in Jacksonville, Ngakoue played like an all-pro pass rusher, racking up 37.5 sacks in four years. He then recorded just eight sacks in two years with two other teams. Some would argue his success in Jacksonville had to do with the talent around him led by Jalen Ramsey and Calais Campbell.
Additionally, given how his tenure with the Jaguars ended rather abruptly and how his time in Minnesota and Baltimore was far from what was expected of him, he was due for a fresh start. The Raiders offer him that luxury.
Yannick Ngakoue got his money, but whether he performs at the high level he once played at remains to be seen. However, he is in a system where he can thrive in. Whether or not he pans out is up to him, but the Raiders deserve praise for addressing an area that has been severely lacking.
