Before you stop reading this, hear me out. Yes, Smith has elite numbers. He’s one of the most decorated prospects to enter the draft at the wide receiver position. Winning the Heisman Trophy on top of another championship was just another boost to his illustrious resume.

Smith does a lot of things well. He’s a fantastic route runner with high football intellect. Moreover, he stems his routes with suddenness and has reliable hands. However, the hype surrounding him as a top 5-10 prospect is a bit much.

He’s not as explosive as the other top two wideouts in the 2021 NFL Draft, Jaylen Waddle and Ja’Marr Chase. He doesn’t offer the same yards of contact as either of those guys. Plus, he’s lanky without any room to add weight or muscle on his 6-0 frame. How much does he weigh? Seriously.

Some may point to Marvin Harrison as a comp, but he’s not as fast as the Hall Of Famer. If he goes to a team that runs outside zone or backs who bounce runs outside, he could be a liability. Smith doesn’t belong in the top 5 picks for any team outside of the Miami Dolphins. Somewhere between 8-10 makes more sense for Smith.
