25 best players to never make a Pro Bowl: 17. Chris Canty, DE

Career stats:

  • 309 total tackles
  • 22.5 sacks

Best season 2011:

  • 47 total tackles
  • 4 sacks

For DE Chris Canty, the numbers should be largely ignored. If they aren’t, then many will believe he was never a Pro Bowl caliber player which just isn’t true.

The sacks were low and the total amount of tackles weren’t impressive even in his best season. But still, Canty’s ability to push the pocket and force quarterbacks on the run was like no other. His 49 quarterback hits were a constant reminder that signal-callers needed to get rid of the ball in a hurry whenever he was in the vicinity.

Canty was also a major reason why the 2011 New York Giants knocked off the heavily favored New England Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Considering his prime didn’t last very long, Canty didn’t have many opportunities to grab a Pro Bowl selection. But even at his best, he only registered four sacks to go along with 47 tackles which came in the 2011 season.

From there, Canty would go on to play four more pedestrian seasons. Although his numbers continued to decrease year after year, Canty will always be remembered for his days in a Giants uniform. Considering his overall presence was always felt, Canty had a legitimate case for being named a Pro Bowler at least once.
