For cornerback Trumaine Johnson, his placement on this list just doesn’t make any sense. His long and arduous road to his first Pro Bowl selection continues although he’s put together numerous seasons that were worthy of the nod.
In most instances, a player’s failure to make the squad can be understandable, but for Johnson, his circumstances are amongst one of the more perplexing.
From the moment he stepped foot on an NFL field, he was immediately one of the best at his position. In his rookie year, he racked up 29 tackles, two interceptions and defended eight passes.
But while it was understandable that he ultimately wasn’t chosen that year as a Pro Bowler, his 2015 season will go down as one of the best a player has ever had at any position without being selected. Johnson managed to rack up 69 tackles, defended 17 passes and grabbed seven picks.
In comparison to another corner who made the team that season in future Hall of Famer Darrelle Revis, it’s impossible to understand how he was given the nod over Johnson. Revis on the year had 39 total tackles, defended nine passes and intercepted the ball twice.
Good numbers yes, but not nearly at the level of Johnson. Currently, the yearly Pro Bowl snub is still an active player in the league so there’s still time to remove himself from this list. But if his last two seasons are any indication, his time as a top corner could be over.
