25 best players to never make a Pro Bowl: 3. Amani Toomer, WR

Career stats:

  • 9,497 receiving yards
  • 668 receptions
  • 54 TDs

Best season 2002:

  • 1,343 receiving yards
  • 82 receptions
  • 8 TDs

Sometimes, you really have to sit back and laugh. Amani Toomer flat-out gave it to defenders when he was in his prime. His ability to be physical with defenders was impressive but even more so, was the speed he placed on display every Sunday afternoon.

Put it like this, Toomer was strong enough to bully his man out of the way to get his hands on the ball but also crafty enough to work his way down the field for a big play. At one point, Toomer had five straight seasons of over 1,000 yards. Something that is commonplace in today’s game but was a rarity in his day.

His best season by far came in 2002 when he torched everyone who attempted to defend him for over 1,300 yards and eight touchdowns.

Even with his stellar play in the regular season, Toomer was just as good in the playoffs. In 2007, he helped lead his Giants team to a win over the New England Patriots. Toomer caught six passes on the day to go along with 84 yards.

But even with that type of production, he still didn’t come close to sniffing a Pro Bowl team and finds himself forever entrenched on this list because of it.
