The New York Giants pulled out all the stops with their free agency pitch to Adoree Jackson and have now boosted the secondary a great deal.

When the New York Giants were recruiting Adoree Jackson in free agency following his release from the Titans, they used two powerful advocates to sell the pitch. As it turns out, Jabril Peppers’ and Logan Ryan’s words turned out to help seal the deal as Jackson signed a three-year, $39 million deal, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Giants get to add another piece to their secondary while also bringing in a player with traits that fit well into what head coach Joe Judge demands from the players in the defense’s back end. Plus, for Jackson, it’s a fresh start in his career.

As a former first-round pick out of USC, Jackson came into the NFL among one of the better college defensive backs and return specialists. However, in three years, he has only two picks, both coming in 2018. He’s mostly made a name for himself as a returner, which doesn’t hurt, but it wasn’t exactly what the Titans had in mind when taking him in the first round back in 2017.

Adoree Jackson provides value to the Giants’ secondary and playoff experience.

While in Tennesse with Ryan, Jackson was part of a Titans team that sent Tom Brady out of Foxborough, courtesy of Ryan’s game-sealing interception. Tennessee went on to beat Baltimore in the divisional round before succumbing to the Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

It looked like in 2020 that Jackson would finally show why he was a first-round pick before a knee injury cost him most of the 2020 season, and eventually, he was released. Now, he joins Peppers and Ryan in addition to pro-bowl cornerback James Bradberry to form a strong defensive back core. Don’t forget about safety Xavier McKinney either.

Sure, Adoree Jackson doesn’t stand out in the stat sheet. But given the right system, he may very well turn out to be a productive player. The good news for him? The Giants wanted him and are willing to help him.
