The Dallas Cowboys have continued to make solid value signings in 2021 NFL free agency but which remaining players could they also still add?
Outside of finally inking quarterback Dak Prescott to a four-year, $160 million contract to secure the future of the offense, the Dallas Cowboys haven’t been interested in making big splashes in 2021 NFL free agency. But winning in free agency isn’t always about making headlines. Rather, it’s often about finding the right players at the right value.
In that vein, you could argue that the Cowboys have been effective this offseason. Dallas has done a great job of plugging holes and filling out the margins of the roster, re-signing cornerbacks Jourdan Lewis and C.J. Goodwin, landing depth pieces such as Brent Urban, Ty Nsheke and Tarrell Basham, and most recently landing Keanu Neal, who will play a WILL linebacker role for the defense.
After their moves, though, the Cowboys still have roughly $10 million left under the salary cap, meaning they could make more moves in the second wave of free agency prior to the 2021 NFL Draft. With that in mind, here are 12 free agents Dallas could still target.
Dallas Cowboys late free agency target No. 12: Richard Sherman, CB
When the Cowboys hired Dan Quinn to be their new defensive coordinator, reuniting the former Seahawks DC with veteran cornerback Richard Sherman was an easy connection to make. Though he’ll be 33 years old this season, he proved in San Francisco that he’s still one of the most instinctual and effective corners in the league. For a Dallas defense lacking in the secondary, especially after some key losses, Sherman would still make a lot of sense.
Dallas Cowboys late free agency target No. 11: Trai Turner, OG
Especially after signing Nsheke, most people would assume that any further offensive line depth would be addressed in the draft. But depending on his market, the option of adding Trai Turner should be explored.
Turner was downright bad with the Chargers last season after a promising start to his career with the Panthers. Chances are, he’s a better player than he showed and he would represent a chance for Dallas to make an upgrade opposite Zack Martin.
Dallas Cowboys late free agency target No. 10: Bashaud Breeland, CB
Bashaud Breeland is one of the hardest types of players to peg on the open market. That’s largely due to the fact that his best moments make him look like a top-tier corner while his worst moments make him look unplayable. Still, with a need for quality depth, Breeland should come relatively cheap due to his volatility and that could ultimately prove to be beneficial if Quinn can mine some consistency out of an obviously talented player.
