2021 NFL Mock Draft, post-free agency: Browns land Micah Parsons, Falcons shock with Kyle Pitts
By Randy Gurzi
In 2020, the Dallas Cowboys found themselves signing several veterans who were on the wrong side of their primes in hopes of finding lightning in a bottle. Unfortunately for them, Dontari Poe, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, and Gerald McCoy all failed to live up to expectations with only Poe actually making the initial 53-man roster.
This season, they seem to be taking a better approach as they’ve been signing players who might not be as well known, but who are in their primes. Carlos Watkins and Tarell Basham are both 27-years old and have starting experience. They also signed Brent Urban who will be 30, but he’s fresh off his best season as a pro and should be fine in 2021.
While those moves could prove fruitful, Dallas still needs to improve its secondary. They do have a visit scheduled with free safety Damontae Kazee who would be a solid fit given his experience in Dan Quinn’s system. But even if they sign him, they need more help, especially at corner. That’s why the No. 10 pick is used on Jaycee Horn from South Carolina.
There will be those who think Horn is a stretch here and that they should take Farley, but Horn is more of a sure thing. Farley might have a higher ceiling but he hasn’t played the position as long whereas Horn has plenty of experience and vastly improved during his final season with the Gamecocks.
