2021 NFL Mock Draft, post-free agency: Browns land Micah Parsons, Falcons shock with Kyle Pitts

Dan Orlovsky was on record recently saying something about how the Philadelphia Eagles shouldn’t even consider taking a quarterback at No. 6. His reasoning was that they needed to show support for Jalen hurts, which he says is something they didn’t do for Carson Wentz. Of course, Orlovsky makes no apologies for his fondness of Wentz and we could argue whether or not the failure of the former No. 2 quarterback was on him or the team.
Having said that, the ESPN analyst is absolutely right about the Eagles needing to go with something other than a quarterback here. They did themselves no favors drafting Hurts in 2020 while still trying to show a commitment to Wentz and as soon as the pick was made, the writing was on the wall — Hurts would be a starter.
Now, they need to build around Hurts and give him the tools he needs to succeed. He might be able to take them back to prominence or he might fail. But the only way to figure that out is to give him full control of this offense — and find him players who can help him take the next step.
That’s where Devonta Smith from Alabama comes in. The 2020 Heisman Trophy winner was surgical last season and found a way to destroy defenses at all three levels. He would also help their top pick from 2020 improve as well as Jalen Reagor is better suited as the No. 2 wideout whereas Smith could be the top option. Suddenly a weakness becomes a strength in Philly.
