4. CB Malcolm Butler (Released by Tennessee Titans)

Cornerback Kevin King is back in the fold after being allowed to test the open market. A second-round pick from the University of Washington in 2017, he’s become more of a fixture in the Green Bay secondary the past two seasons. During his initial two years in the league, he was limited to a total of 15 contests. But he has started 25-of-26 games since 2019 and was also in the opening lineup for all four postseason tilts.

However, new defensive coordinator Joe Barry could use another seasoned pro in the secondary. Malcolm Butler was recently let go by the Titans and he and the rest of his secondary mates didn’t get a lot of help from pass rush that produced just 19 sacks in 2020.

3. ILB Vince Williams (Released by Pittsburgh Steelers)

There’s a new sheriff in town when it comes to the defensive coordinator spot. Well-traveled Joe Barry (via Wes Hodkiewicz of Packers.com) has some history with Matt LaFleur. The Green Bay defense did play better a year ago than it had in previous years but there still seems to be something missing from this side of the ball.

Outside linebacker Za’Darius Smith has 12.5 of the team’s 41 sacks but the club came up with only 18 takeaways. And the run defense remains suspect, tied for 13th in the league this past season. Vince Williams is an eight-year veteran who could provide depth, but don’t rule out Kwon Alexander if he is fully recovered from an Achilles’ injury.
