. LB, North Carolina. Philadelphia Eagles. Chazz Surratt. 3. player. 54

Linebacker play has been an obvious concern for the Eagles for some time, one that needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. And though he’s not a readymade star, Chazz Surratt’s upside makes him an easy pick early in the third round.

A former quarterback, you can see those instincts when Surratt is in coverage and how he sees the field there. He’s ultra-athletic and can get to his spots well but is simply new to the position with only two years of experience. Given more time and reps, Surratt could develop into an every-down player who holds down the middle of the Eagles defense.

S, USC. Philadelphia Eagles. Talanoa Hufanga. 3. player. 54.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a player who’s best plays at safety line up with Hufanga’s. He can unleash (legal) earth-shattering hits and plays with controlled violence when coming downhill. Even better, though, is that the athletic playmaker has developed a great deal as a coverage player. With experience lining up all over the defense from his time with the Trojans, he could definitely address a big need on the back end of the Eagles defense.

player. 54. . IOL. Philadelphia Eagles. Deonte Brown. 4

If there was one major concern with Brown coming out of Alabama, it was that he was too big and bulky to adequately move well enough in the NFL. But at his pro day, he showed off a commitment to slimming down and that boosts his stock a great deal. He’s an absolute mauler on the interior who can control his matchups with ease. That’s a great young piece for a line that could stand to get younger and deepened up.

player. 54. . OT, Nebraska. Philadelphia Eagles. Brenden Jaimes. 5

The offensive line in Philadelphia undeniably took a step back last year and the lack of depth within that unit was on full display. That must be addressed and a player of Brenden Jaimes’ ilk could help with that.

A left tackle at Nebraska, Jaimes isn’t a top-end prospect due to limited athleticism but he moves relatively well and plays with good power. He has a future in the NFL as a guard or tackle but either would be great for the Eagles to have a quality backup on the roster at multiple positions.
