Philadelphia Eagles 7-round 2021 mock draft after trading down
With the near-certain departure of Zach Ertz looming, the Eagles will need to add some depth behind Dallas Goedert in the tight end room. That’s where an unheralded but usable player like John Bates could make sense.
Bates is solid as both a blocker and pass-catcher, though he’s not a standout in either department. Still, he could be a solid asset as a player who can be inserted into any situation and hold his own.
Marco Wilson will long be remembered for throwing a shoe to earn a game-costing penalty against LSU. From a physical standpoint, the former Gator checks all the boxes you want to see from a corner prospect. Having said that, he hasn’t put that full arsenal to good use at all times. But when a player with his god-given ability is available at this point, a needy team like Philadelphia can’t pass him up.
We’re going back to the wide receiver well because, frankly, the Eagles need it. So after getting a potential target monster in Smith, they land on an interesting value pick with Dax Milne in the sixth round.
Nothing about Milne exactly jumps off the tape but there are few things he doesn’t do well. With a solid build at 6-0, 190 pounds, he could be a WR3 or 4 for the Eagles and add some pop on the wide receiver depth chart.
Hubert isn’t going to wow anyone with his frame or athleticism. However, you can’t miss him on film because he’s flying around in the backfield. His motor is absolutely relentless and he possesses the traits to be a leader in a locker room. Though he won’t be an every-down player, he could fill a rotational role and do so with great ferocity.
After parting ways with Malik Jackson, there is a need for defensive line depth in Philly. Malik Herring won’t be a game-changer but he can be a solid piece, especially as a seventh-rounder.
Herring offers a bit of versatility as he played off the edge at Georgia but his frame is slightly better suited for an interior role. Either way, he can be an asset for the Eagles.
