NFL: 30 greatest seasons from players 30 and older: 22. Jerry Rice, 1994

What is a list of the greatest seasons of players 30 years old and older without several appearances from Jerry Rice? Of all the positions in football, Rice might be the most consensus number one player to ever play wide receiver. While Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, and Larry Fitzgerald all had their days in the sun, no receiver experienced a more dominant run over a longer period of time than Rice.

Though there were many seasons to pick from, Rice’s 1994 campaign lands on my 22nd spot on this list. At the age of 32 and coming off his 7th first-team All-Pro honors, Rice once again led the NFL in receiving yards with 1,499. In addition, his 112 receptions and 13 touchdowns both finished near the top of the league.

While he averaged just 13.4 yards per reception that season (which is low compared to his 14.8 for his career average), Rice remarkably averaged 10 yards per target and caught a whopping 74.2 percent of passes thrown in his direction.

Eventually, Rice would help lead a powerful offense that would result in yet another Super Bowl win for the San Francisco 49ers – the third of his career. Rice was a candidate for MVP in 1994, but that honor ultimately fell to his quarterback, Steve Young.
