NFL: 30 greatest seasons from players 30 and older: 11. Randy Moss, 2007
Outside of the great Jerry Rice, Randy Moss was the most dominant wide receiver the league has ever seen. Moss was the only NFL receiver to open his career with six-straight seasons of over 1,200 receiving yards, and he managed to average over 12 touchdowns per year over that span.
After witnessing an outrageous amount of production for the Minnesota Vikings, Moss spent two seasons with the Oakland Raiders where he recorded very modest numbers before joining the New England Patriots in 2007. At the age of 30, Moss had one of the single-best seasons we have ever seen at the wide receiver positions.
Now playing with Tom Brady, Moss once again reclaimed his status as the best deep-ball receiver in the NFL – catching 98 passes for 1,493 yards. However, what was most impressive was his ability to hit paydirt. Moss converted nearly one-fourth of his receptions into touchdowns – scoring 23 times through the air and once more on the ground.
Moss helped Tom Brady to one of the best quarterback seasons we have ever seen, and at 16-0, the Patriots were dangerously close to having only the second ‘perfect season’ since the 1972 Miami Dolphins. Unfortunately, Eli Manning rained on their parade as the Patriots fell just short of perfection in Super Bowl XLII.
