Chicago Bears: 5 Offensive tackles to target in 2021 NFL Draft
Virginia Tech offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw has been linked to the Chicago Bears by more than a few mock drafts. Also, he’s met with the Bears a couple of times. The Bears sent offensive line coach Juan Castillo to see him at his Pro Day. If there was a player who is a good bet to go to Chicago it is Darrisaw.
Another link between the Bears and Darrisaw is the trainer he’s using to prepare for the draft. This is what he says about that trainer, per SI.com:
"Josh Sitton is playing a huge role for me during the draft process to get ready. Just telling me to keep your head in the playbook and taking care of your body is a huge thing."
Yes, that is former Chicago Bears offensive lineman Sitton who is training Darrisaw. If the Bears wanted to know anything about the prospect, Sitton could tell them.
Darrisaw measures in at 6-5, 314 pounds and can play either left or right tackle. He’ll solidify the Bears’ offensive line situation the moment he walks onto the field.
Darrisaw plays with a chip on his shoulder. Coming out of high school, he was just a two-star rated player and Virginia Tech was the only FBS school to offer him a scholarship. He became a starter right away with the Hokies and improved every year. Now he’s on the precipice of becoming a star in the NFL.
He has quick feet and he’s able to mirror pass rushers. He has a good bend and has the strength in his hands to knock defenders off balance. After that initial punch, he does a good job of locking onto the defender.
Darrisaw’s lateral movement off the snap is exceptional. He gets off quickly and gets to his blocking assignment in no time.
One thing that Darrisaw does well that will help running back David Montgomery is his ability to turn and secure a cutback lane. Montgomery is a shifty runner and cuts back a lot. With Darrisaw securing the cutback, Montgomery will have opportunities to make big runs on cutbacks.
Darrisaw could challenge both Ifedi and Leno in camp. Eventually, though, he’ll step in and take over at left tackle and be a franchise player for the Bears.
