Pernell McPhee, EDGE (Baltimore Ravens)

Grade: A-

Spekaing of good players at affordable prices, the Ravens brought back EDGE defender Pernell McPhee on a one-year deal worth just $1.2 million. McPhee is another veteran presence on the talented Baltimore defense and is coming off a solid year where he finished with three sacks, 15 QB hits, 34 tackles  and a 71.8 grade from PFF (subscription required).

The former fifth round pick from 2011 has now played 131 games in his NFL career with just 43 starts but he has been an impact player throughout his career with Baltimore, Chicago, and Washington. He is another player that won’t necessarily move the needle but his cheap contract compared to his production makes this a great move for Baltimore.

McPhee started 13 games for Baltimore last year but played just 43 percent of the team’s defensive snaps and we can expect a similar role moving forward. The Ravens have a heavy rotation policy with their defensive lineman and outside linebackers and depth is key which is exactly what McPhee provides to one of the best defensive units in the NFL.
