Dallas Cowboys: 7-Round mock draft readies team for playoff return
Continuing to look at the cornerback room to try and add quality young depth to that position group, taking a flier on a player like Antonio Phillips would make a ton of sense. The Ball State product collected eight interceptions in his college career and clearly has a good feel for the position.
Moreover, Phillips’ physicality and willingness to come up and play the run well make him a nice asset, especially as a special teams player early in his career. Overall, he won’t see the field early but has a future in the NFL to come through and be a nice player for Dallas.
The only reason that Carlo Kemp is going to fall into the later rounds of the draft is the fact that he’s not a complete player in any respect. He lacks effectiveness as a run defender and probably has limited upside there. But for the Cowboys, he could be a substantial role player in the trenches.
Kemp is extremely explosive as an interior pass-rusher and has the unique ability to break through the line and harass opposing quarterbacks consistently. Used as a rush-only defensive tackle, Kemp could be an asset for this defense that needs more quality role players on the depth chart.
After taking CeeDee Lamb in the first round last year, the Cowboys aren’t in dire need of help at the position right now. But with Michael Gallup potentially leaving after this season (or at the trade deadline), Dallas could stand to take a gamble on a player like Tamorrion Terry.
A regularity for Florida State, Terry’s tape is a mixed bag as he flashed elite potential but has struggled to be a consistent route-runner while struggling with concentration drops. The potential for the 6-4 wide receiver is obvious, though, and NFL coaching might unlock a late-round steal.
