Pick Analysis. CB. 10. player. Scouting Report. Alabama. Patrick Surtain II. 123

At No. 10, the Dallas Cowboys are going to be very tempted to take Klye Pitts out of Florida — especially knowing he could end up with one of their two biggest rivals if they don’t take him. Both the New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles are coming up after them and they too could use Pitts.

But Dallas can’t think about that when making their choice. They have to do what’s best for their team — and while we can argue how much Pitts would help, they probably won’t pull the trigger. One reason is that they made a similar move in 2020 when they took Oklahoma receiver CeeDee Lamb despite the fact that Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup each had 1,000-yards the previous year.

While they don’t regret that move, their decision to ignore the defensive side of the ball early in the draft had an impact. Dallas had one of the worst defense in the history of the NFL in 2020 and they are going to have a hard time passing on that side of the ball again.

Having said all that, they also find themselves in a fortunate situation with Patrick Surtain II still on the board. The Alabama cornerback is the No. 1 defensive back in this class and would instantly improve the Dallas secondary.

A potential lockdown corner, Surtain wowed at his Pro Day and looks the part of a perennial Pro Bowler, which is something the Cowboys defense is in desperate need of.
