2021 NFL Mock Draft: 49ers land Mac Jones, Kyle Pitts falls to Giants

Back in 2018, the New York Jets took Sam Darnold out of USC at No. 3 overall. Darnold was expected to go first overall that season but the Cleveland Browns decided Baker Mayfield was their guy and the Jets were thrilled to have their guy fall in their laps.
Unfortunately for them, Darnold never took the team out of the cellar. It’s clearly not all on him — it’s not like he was the one who hired Adam Gase after the debacle at his last stop — but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve some blame.
Darnold still has too many turnovers and he’s also struggled to stay on the field at times. With all that being said, both sides can use a change and that’s wy New York shipped him off to Carolina. That also makes this pick less dramatic as no one will be surprised to see them call on BYU’s Zach Wilson at this point.
Wilson is a seriously talented player who burst onto the scene in 2020 and put his name on the map. He’s incredibly mobile and can create when things break down. On top of his improvisational skills, Wilson simply has elite arm talent.
This move will be questioned with Justin Fields still on the board but the Jets seem to have their minds made up. The good news is, despite how talented Fields is, Wilson is a player who should also have plenty of success in the NFL.
