Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. CB. 46. Northwestern. Greg Newsome II. 21. player

The Indianapolis Colts did a good job in landing Carson Wentz without having to give up this selection. They could still lose a first if certain criteria are hit by Wentz, but they were able to get someone they believe can lead their franchise and keep their first-round pick this season to build up their roster.

While it seems like they would love to put another wideout on the field for Wentz, things don’t fall that way. With Rashod Batemen coming off one pick before they’re on the clock, Indianapolis goes with plan B — Greg Newsome II.

Cornerback might not seem like as dire a need, but re-signing T.Y. Hilton means that wideout isn’t as desperate either. So with no need to reach in either direction, the BPA wins out and Newsome is the pick.

Listed at 6-foot-1 and 190-pounds, Newsome has a rangy body that pesters opposing receivers. He’s good when it comes to challenging the ball at the point of attack and while he doesn’t rack up a lot of turnovers, he does force several incompletions.

With the recent injury to Caleb Farley, Newsome found himself sneaking into the first-round conversation and that winds up happening here for him. He should be a good fit for defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus and with a little coaching, might become a solid starter at the next level.
