Cameron Sutton, CB (Pittsburgh Steelers)

Grade: B

The Steelers brought back one of their versatile defensive backs by signing Cameron Sutton to a two-year $9 million contract. The skilled defender lined up all over the defense as an outside corner, slot corner, and nickel corner when starters went down with injury.

Sutton has been with the Steelers for four years since being selected in the third round of the 2017 draft and has featured in 52 games but has started just eight with six of them coming in 2020. He played a career high 53 percent of the defensive snaps in 2020 and was also a key contributor on special teams as he played 41 percent of the snaps for that unit.

The Steelers are betting on Sutton’s upside as they have lost Steve Nelson in free agency and can plug him in as an outside corner and elsewhere as needed. The cost is manageable and affordable for a starting corner and the only risk is if Sutton is not able to manage a full-time starting role.
