Best trade in Houston Texans history: Acquiring Deshaun Watson

The Houston Texans saw the man that would lead their franchise for the next decade plus just sitting in the green room. During the 2017 NFL Draft, many believed Watson should be the first name off the board.

Instead, for whatever reason, one-year wonder Mitchell Trubisky was taken with the second overall pick by the Chicago Bears. A few picks later, Patrick Mahomes came off the board. Realizing that Watson was still available, the Texans made their move. The middling franchise gave the Cleveland Browns their first-round pick, 25th overall, and a 2018 first-rounder in order to get Watson.

He’s only been in Houston for four years but Watson has been terrific. He’s a three-time Pro Bowler already, and an MVP candidate year in and year out. Watson has also made numerous trips to the playoffs as well.

While the future at one point in time appeared bright, it’s now murky at best as Watson has requested a trade from the franchise and refuses to ever put on a Houston Texans jersey ever again. Although it seems that his time as a Texan has officially come to an end, there’s no doubt that trading for Watson was the best move this franchise had ever made, albeit for a brief amount of time.
