Best trade in Jacksonville Jaguars history: Acquiring Fred Taylor

Rob Johnson was nothing more than a backup quarterback with meager talent. Yet, that didn’t stop the Buffalo Bills from truly valuing him.

Somehow someway, the Jacksonville Jaguars turned their sparsely used QB into a first and fourth-round draft selection in the 1998 draft. Even with a new team and an opportunity to start, Johnson was awful during his time in Buffalo. He remained with the team for four years and never produced a winning season.

The Seahawks must’ve been chuckling at the Bills misfortune as they drafted running back Fred Taylor with the ninth overall pick. He was immediately chosen to the 1998 All-Rookie Team after running for over 1,200 yards. Taylor had plenty of great years with the Seahawks, including seven seasons of over a thousand yards rushing. They were never the most competitive team out there and his accolades at years end suffered because of it but Taylor was a consistent player for the Jaguars and one they could count on every Sunday.

Currently, Jones holds the franchise record for the most career rushing yards with 11,271, more than 3,000 yards then second-place running back Maurice Jones-Drew.

Jones would eventually be released by the team in 2009 before returning home in 2011 by signing a one day contract to retire with the club.
